It’s Tops Coffee Shop

My first impression of this place was that it was a hipster hangout *trying* to be retro. The thing is, I was totally wrong. Apparantly, it’s been like this all its life, it’s one of those “been here forever” type stores, and the food is decent diner grub. The space is tiny - there’s like 5 booths and a counter, and It’s Tops is also home to possibly the smallest bathroom in San Francisco.
Also, c’mon, they have a deep fried food section in their menu. That’s gotta count for something. They’ve also photocopied the first dollar ever made at It’s Tops, which is cute and lets you know that they’re a part of San Francisco history as much as the Golden Gate Bridge or the Cable Cars are. I also like that they call them “hotcakes” and not pancakes… makes me think that behind the grill is a sweet southern momma cooking me some down-home lovin, even though in reality it is probably some dude named Carlos who hates me for kicking his family out of the Mission.
